It is our long term goal to enrich the quality of life of the Disabled people, through sports, which are not so physically demanding. Our vision, therfore, is to provide them with a conducive recreational environment for all those disabled irrespective of their disabilities and those aged and frail.
Our aim is to encourage the sports authorities of Singapore to create a one-stop recreation centre where the disabled can not only play Lawn Bowls but also other games, that are not physically demanding, such as Billiards, Bridge, Cards, Chess, Table Tennis just to name a few.
We are affiliated to the Singapore Disablilty Sports Council(SDSC).By virtue of this affiliation we enjoy the same rights
and privileges accorded to the members by the Singapore Sports Council(SSC), Singapore National Olympic Council(SNOC) and International Paralympic Committee(IPC). Our association has since been granted full membership with the National Council of Social Service(NCSS).
Currently our membership is in excess of 60 members (excluding corporate memberships such as the Metta Welfare and Leprosy Relief Associations).
We are training 33 disabled participants from the SPD - Society for the physically disabled and the Sree Narayana Mission Home for the mentally burnt-out.
It is an encouraging sign that Chao Yang School has adopted Lawn Bowls as an Extra Curricular Activity for school children with special needs from February 2006.
We are seeking to expand the membership portfolio to other societies and organisations caring for the disabled. With the enlarged memberships the LBAD will be able to attract and engage more trainers to enhance the skills of our members. This will result in our members participating in competitions held locally and internationally, if any.
The Lawn Bowls Association for the Disabled(Singapore) was registered as a society with the Registrar of Societies in April 2004.
